It has been a medal-studded decade for Ian Green while he has been working for Barratt and David Wilson Homes. His trophy cabinet is stuffed with 12 Pride in the Job awards, six Seals of Excellence and two regional awards from the National House Building Council – a recognition of commitment to house-building quality that is hard to beat.
An excellent leader who strives for building excellence, Ian was meticulous with his planning and construction programming to ensure this first phase of a much bigger project ran smoothly and within budget, while being quick to adapt to the issues that arose.
The original design for the project’s apartment blocks called for flat, timber-joist roofs. But as the build commenced, these proved extremely time-consuming and cost-ineffective to construct, so Ian quickly switched to a structural layer of concrete to speed up the build and contain the cost.
Committed to his role, he also ensured his team was prepared, motivated and focused on a shared goal of quality and efficiency. He invested time and attention into the trades on site to create a positive and productive work environment for all, where teamwork and communication were always evident.
That constant communication was equally reflected in his efforts to minimise disruption for local people and businesses. On a city centre development, surrounded by significant footfall and traffic, his careful planning and scheduling allowed life to continue as normal for the community. It also drove an enviable level of customer satisfaction.
