Mark Brady
McAleer & Rushe

A construction manager’s project relationships can be anything from a series of fractious marriages of convenience to a whole-hearted culture of collaboration. Through his openness, communication and team-nurturing ethic on this scheme, his first for McAleer & Rushe, Mark Brady brought the construction joy to all stakeholders. Personable, disarming and dedicated to getting the best out of the whole team, he got the project over the line with energy, commitment and drive.

About the Project

The Silver Yard, Birmingham

His buildability and value engineering initiatives were crucial given the need for planning permission – and the major delays that would mean – to change the unitised cladding of the original design. By finding a way to bond the vertical fins to the panels, Mark was able to eliminate 25% of the fin supports and capture big cost benefits.

By introducing larger precast panels and changing the crane lifting methodology, he slashed the total crane time needed to install them. It halved the instal programme, allowing an earlier than planned start on the internal finishes.

And as the main base build was moving close to completion, he took over the design and fitout of an extensive amenity space for the client, which included a reception area and rooftop terrace. Despite the tightest of deadlines, he delivered it in time for the project to open its doors on the originally scheduled date.
