Statement on the future of the CIOB Awards

After careful consideration, the CIOB Board of Trustees has made the difficult decision to conclude the CIOB Awards, including the Construction Manager of the Year Awards (CMYA), with the final event having taken place in May this year. The Awards have played a vital role in celebrating the talent, leadership and professionalism that drive our industry forward. For over 30 years, they have highlighted the extraordinary work of individuals and teams across the built environment, and we are incredibly proud of what they have achieved.

However, despite significant efforts in recent years to evolve and sustain the Awards, we have seen a steady decline in entries and sponsorship. As a result, the Awards have become financially unsustainable, operating at a considerable loss to our charitable operations. This outcome, while disappointing, reflects the changing landscape in which we all operate. We are deeply grateful to the employers, sponsors, judges and, most of all, the nominees and winners who have helped make the Awards what they are. Your support has allowed us to celebrate excellence, raise standards, and inspire new talent throughout the sector.

While the Awards in their current format are coming to an end, our commitment to recognising and championing excellence remains unchanged. We will continue to explore new ways of showcasing outstanding contributions to our industry, both in the UK and globally, through formats that are better aligned with today’s needs and opportunities. Our sincere thanks to all who have supported and shaped the CIOB Awards over the years.
