Connor McMahon’s architecture background and technical acumen powered his pragmatic leadership of this 12-storey green office project. With 85% of the space pre-let at practical completion, with happy tenants and an even happier client, Connor’s can-do approach reaped dividends, including the award of a fit-out of two of the floors.
About the Project
City Square House, Leeds
Through expert forward planning and co-ordination he adroitly managed the piling of a site that had already been piled twice before. He crimped the existing piles, undertook extensive temporary works and A-frame props, and drove through the late introduction of a secant wall.
Connor championed slipforming the building core to gain programme advantage. When the subcontractor went into administration during the final stages, he stepped in to directly employ the labour and ensure prompt completion. Likewise, when the curtain-walling subcontractor went out of business, his direct employment of its key personnel on the site derisked manufacturing and installation.
Spreading all the way to the site boundary with limited room for constructing the three-tier basement car park, the project was a logistical nightmare. Connor smartly kept existing services in place with a redesign that retained the existing basement without losing any parking spaces.
