About the Project
Construction of two-storey custody suite with 22 cells, completed in 83 weeks.Â
For this highly specialised facility, Danial Moore made sure he learned the lessons of previous builds. He visited other recently completed custody suites to look for design ideas to incorporate and interviewed their users.Â
That simple initiative generated small changes with big impact. They included not finishing the cell interiors in ceramic tile, which had a direct programme and commercial benefit for the client.Â
An even more important lesson he learned was that defence barristers had been able to overhear other defendants being interviewed. Dan brought in an external acoustic engineer to help devise extra details using the materials and processes already planned. His successful solution for the acoustic bleeding was to increase and thicken the plaster and to relocate an acoustic head detail.Â
The national guidance on forensic examination facilities in custody suites changed just three months before handover. Dan nevertheless delivered the great increase it required in the number of air changes in the forensic medical room – in spite of the ducting having already been installed in a room in the middle of the building – to 20 per hour.Â
Calm in a crisis, a collaborative problem-solver who focused on solutions rather than blame, Dan delivered within budget and on programme through early strategic thinking, customer understanding and technical ability.Â
