Meet the Finalists
2025 | High Rise Accommodation

A complex and ambitious build of a 16-storey tower and two other blocks on a constrained brownfield site is one thing. A brace of major change instructions arriving deep into the programme, with the frame already up, is quite another.
About the Project
300 Harrow Road
Mark Chamberlain didn’t just cope with everything but did so with such verve, determination and inspiration that the scheme has become the client’s flagship development.
Ordinarily, the two changes – a shift to 100% affordable provision for the homes and a switch to 100% renewable energy for the heating – would have made a big dent in both programme and cost. Recognising their importance to the client, Mark made them happen.
Replacing the original gas boiler system with air-source heat pumps required a full redesign. This was one of the largest developments to deploy such a system at the time and it was a new technology for the management team. Mark drove the sourcing, design and installation while keeping the overall project on track. He also oversaw the redesign of the finishes schedule required following the tenure pivot, which eliminated homes for open market sale in favour of social rental only.
Mark’s leadership of this scheme emphasised not only the importance of construction delivery but also the need to align that delivery with the client’s aspirations and focus.
