Devizes Health Centre

Construction of two-storey integrated healthcare centre, completed in 73 weeks.

On a challenging build with numerous stakeholders, Martin Symonds delivered a net-zero health facility, certified as BREEAM excellent, that sets a sustainability benchmark against which future NHS construction projects will be measured.

He offered good project leadership and demonstrated a thorough understanding of both the construction and wider environmental and community challenges. His early collaborative approach gave the client the confidence that the project would deliver a positive outcome for every stakeholder.

Martin took a level-headed approach to challenges and offered structured and constructive management. The technical difficulties included repositioning the building after the location of a main sewer through the site was identified, no power on site, and an enforced drainage redesign that required a connection 300m further out than originally anticipated. His positive attitude and willingness to take ownership of all these challenges, along with his leadership skills and ability to manage change, ultimately led to successful completion.

On a project whose 147 variations, some of which had a substantial impact on the programme, drove up the contract value by a third, Martin still delivered four weeks early to a delighted client.
