Matt focused early on the big-ticket items and drove the value engineering opportunities. He kept this big build within budget (and timeline) by switching the weathered steel cladding to an aluminium replica alternative, standardising the columns and simplifying the bathroom pod design.

His embrace of technology brought quality benefits. Building information modelling was used for service clash detection and to control installation, and QA check sheets were linked to a comprehensive tracker.

All managers walked their areas with 360-degree camera fixed to their hard hat to capture progress. An AI tool then generated alerts for items still to be installed before wall or ceiling closure. The creation of full-scale benchmarks of façade sections, bathroom pods, show apartments and MEP sample boards further helped resolve issues.

Most impressively for a construction manager whose project teams to date had all worked for the same company, Matt fostered strong relationships with clients, consultants and stakeholders. Through clear communication, expectation management and a proactive approach to problem-solving, he rapidly snuffed out potentially damaging situations when things didn’t go as planned.
