After a succession of storms demolished the critical path of a 100m retaining wall and backfill on which this project’s structural frame was dependent, saddling the build with a 12-week delay, Michael Braiden was brought in to avert programme doom.

His 40+ years of successful project delivery, managerial skills and dedication to achieving quality projects on time and to budget were equal to the task.

Reprogramming to pull back 12 weeks is a significant challenge. Michael restructured the team to leverage its knowledge and skills, brought in an independent tester to map a compliance route, and planned collaboratively. He then drove the programme, inspiring the design team and supply chain, monitoring all activities and implementing recovery measures whenever required.

Michael’s interventions were key to achieving the programme. He introduced prefabricated modular plant rooms, retained and reused excavated soil to construct additional sports pitches, and rolled out a completion criteria dashboard that effectively managed the commissioning process through to effective handover.

On a location far from the Scottish central belt and all the benefits that brings in terms of costs, procurement and labour pools, Michael nevertheless delivered a building completed to the highest quality and compliance standards. The thrilled client has singled him out for work on future projec
