With numerous other projects under his belt for this valuable client, Paul Ingram delivered another successful build with this 860-space multistorey car park, part of a larger infrastructure scheme.
About the Project
Arle Court Transport Hub
He made the crucial decision to move away from the initial structural design of steel frame, precast concrete planks and concrete topping. With the installation of the proposed 16m-long, two-tonne steel beams requiring the simultaneous loading of pairs of concrete floor planks on either side of each beam to prevent the steel twisting, the associated logistical issues would have added at least seven weeks to the construction period.
Instead, Paul championed a switch to a high-spec composite decking and concrete slab. He allayed the corrosion-risk concerns about metal sheeting by choosing sheets with a modern rust-resistant zinc-aluminium-magnesium coating. Combined with a high-quality waterproofing system to prevent water passing through the slab and onto the decking, and a galvanised steel frame with prewelded shear studs, it streamlined and greatly simplified the frame installation and drove the programme.
He incorporated budgetability as well as buildability into the scheme. By removing a cycle bridge and reducing the building height, he value-engineered out the initial overbudget excess.
Calm and motivational as well as technically insightful, Paul’s highly effective leadership delivered an above-expectations build.
