Meet the Finalists
2025 | Healthcare

Steve Musson won the competition for this scheme by bringing a deep experience of similar projects to bear. He then set about winning hearts and minds to create a collaborative project team.
About the Project
Lowther Road Integrated Community Mental Health Centre
His ethos was accompanied by a commitment to community engagement on a constrained site bristling with locational challenges. They included the need to gain oversail agreement for the tower crane from neighbouring properties, the installation of scaffold over other buildings to construct the facade, and the minimisation of noise and disruption during the demolition of the existing facility.
Steve was the main point of contact for neighbourhood liaison. Site deliveries were made only during normal working hours. A monthly paper was distributed locally, and e-newsletters also kept neighbours up to date on progress and upcoming works.
His careful early planning for a new substation derisked the scheme. He put in deeper foundations to support the crane and the scaffold, and to increase the loading capacity of the upper floors, expanding site storage on a tight footprint.
Through early mock-ups, samples and visuals, Steve gained stakeholder buy-in. His project quality plan, underpinned by a robust inspection and testing regime, along with a transparent snagging process, translated to no defects at practical completion of an on-budget, programme-compliant facility.
