The discovery during the drainage dig of, first, human bones from an old burial ground, and then a 450mm water main, delayed this modular build by a year. Meanwhile the mains diversion sent the original cost estimates soaring.

About the Project

Princess Royal Hospital, Urology Investigation & Treatment Centre

Even though the scheme was set back by forces outside his control, Andy Gray still kept the client relationship tight, buoyed by a previous successful project. He constantly engaged with all the stakeholders, overcoming the delays through honesty and transparency, and ultimately driving project improvements.

While the scheme was at a standstill, he incorporated the refurbishment of an antenatal clinic on the hospital site, allowing the client to achieve its budget spend target for the financial year. He also successfully managed a design process challenged by the panoply of stakeholder sign-offs.

Once the project was up and running again, Andy replaced the redundant services and installed a new M&E set-up, including a new plant deck and plant throughout the existing building. And he drove a level of finish and workmanship that scored a whopping 96.4 on the quality audit.

One of the most impressive metrics of Andy’s performance here is that the client has since awarded six more projects to the contractor.
