Dillon Silva’s head in his hands moment came at this project’s Sod’s Law point, when the cladding, roofing and MEP works were nearing completion. Through the safety netting that obscured the roof trusses, he spotted damage to two of the primary steel beams forming the portal frame, which turned out to have been caused by an unreported collision with an excavator.
About the Project
Inventa
Replacing the beams was a seemingly impossible task. Energetic and professional, Dillon identified the temporary works solution, managed the logistics of getting a pair of four-tonne, 16m-long steels onto the first floor, and carefully eased them in.
His can-do determination was equally evident at the start of the project. In preconstruction, he successfully retendered the three key subcontractor packages without crashing the budget. And he kept the programme alive following the early discovery of asbestos in the ground.
Just as eye-catching as Dillon’s skill in putting out project fires was his ability to optimise works. He championed a prefabricated roll-out floor-slab reinforcement that reduced the concrete pour turnarounds by three days for each section and made materials savings. His hard work and leadership on this project produced a building to be proud of, beautifully finished with fine attention to detail.
