Fraser Tanner MCIOB
McLaren Construction

Brought in a few months after the start of this ambitious cut-and-carve extension of two live office buildings with three new floors, Fraser Tanner had the cool head needed for a complex, logistically challenging project above five platforms of one of the country’s busiest railway stations.

About the Project

The Hub

His biggest challenge was installing the main vertical extension in a building that remained occupied by 2,000 end-users throughout. He ensured minimal disruption by putting noise and vibration monitors inside the tenanted space. Work on the existing structure was done at agreed times or out of hours.

The client relationship was advanced compellingly with a key issues tracker that provided clear milestones, deliverables and programme reasoning. Realising that the project would fail or fall short of the required standards and timeline without a collaborative team approach to design management, he arranged weekly workshops and face-to-face meetings to make that happen.

Fraser led the project from the front, controlling the detail and steering the team. A particularly noteworthy achievement was his management of the installation of the three enormous tower cranes above the railway. Each crane sat on 70 tonnes of kentledge and had to be erected from a notoriously busy road to an extremely tight timeline on a date agreed 14 weeks in advance.
