Construction of port terminal building, completed in 72 weeks.Â
Innovation, determination and strategic vision were the hallmarks of Jason Ellam-Brown’s client-side construction manager role on this project to equip the port to accommodate the modern generation of mega cruise ships. His big victories were successfully maintaining the programme so that the first super cruise ship booked into the new facility could dock on the scheduled date, and ensuring that the project’s impressive sustainability features were not stripped out via the design and build contract.Â
About the Project
Portsmouth International Port Terminal Annexe
Construction of port terminal building, completed in 72 weeks.Â
Innovation, determination and strategic vision were the hallmarks of Jason Ellam-Brown’s client-side construction manager role on this project to equip the port to accommodate the modern generation of mega cruise ships. His big victories were successfully maintaining the programme so that the first super cruise ship booked into the new facility could dock on the scheduled date, and ensuring that the project’s impressive sustainability features were not stripped out via the design and build contract.Â
Jason drove the venture from shelved nascent blueprint to full-fledged operational entity. He ensured the financial viability that secured an £11m grant and allowed the scheme to proceed. Identifying £1m in budget savings, he focused the value engineering on material optimisation.Â
Technical challenges were defeated through collaborative problem-solving. By encouraging the client, consultants and contractors to share their perspectives and potential solutions, he not only tapped a rich seam of ideas and innovation but also nurtured a sense of ownership and investment in the project’s success. His cost-benefit analyses squeezed maximum value out of every project aspect.Â
And yet through it all, Jason maintained an unshiftable emphasis on sustainability that ensured the incorporation of green walls, seawater heat exchangers and carbon-eating paint, carrying out a green revolution for a very satisfied client.Â
